Paper Apple Blossom Branches to Celebrate Spring 1

Spring is upon us and everything is beginning to bloom. Flowers are gorgeous of course, but when I am just taking a walk around the neighborhood, it is the blooming branches and trees that always stand out to me. So this spring I am feeling inspired do an update on my branchesfrom a couple years ago. I decided to make these apple blossom blooms a bit smaller than my previous branches, and instead of using a watercolor wash to accentuate the color, I added some detailing with art markers. When I was asked to demo a spring flower on Seattle’s morning show New Day Northwest, I was so excited by the opportunity to reveal this new apple blossom!

Apple blossoms typically include white flowers with hints of blush pink. To recreate this soft and delicate look, I used brush tip art markers to add the pink. You should be able to find these at any art supply or craft store. I have had luck with Copic markers in the past, and for this project I decided to use Tombow brand. These markers are water-based, which makes them kid friendly! To make these apple blossom branches, start by choosing your metallic papers. I used a shimmery white for the blooms, and two shades of green for the leaves (see Shop this Project below!). You will also need a light yellow for the centers of the blooms.

Once you have your paper ready, use the PDF template below if you are cutting by hand, or the SVG file if you are using a cutting machine. After you cut your blooms, use your brush tip pens to add the pink to the centers. I used the Flesh color (#850) Tombow pen, and then used a Blender (#000) to soften the look of the color change. Now you can curl your petals and add your centers. Follow my simple step-by-step tutorial below to put these branches together!

These paper apple blossom branches are beautiful to add to your DIY home decor. I love the idea of using them to decorate a spring table setting, or to hang on your wall for a DIY art piece. Make a mix of my larger branches with these smaller apple blossom branches to create depth in a floral arrangement. Whatever you do, make sure to enjoy the season and take in all the beautiful flowers and greenery blooming around you!
